The snow and ice is "Thick-Dog!"

Postby RaQuin on Tue Jan 12, 2010 11:17 pm

For those of you who have not been to Ashe Park in a while and anyone off the mountain who might not know...

There is a lot of snow and ice on everything. Only a few of the tee-pads are clear and most of the fairways are covered deep. Several of the big pine trees around the pond got damaged badly from the ice storm and branches are everywhere. The back 9 is really deep and is a crazy mix of layers of ice and snow that gives way or grabs a hold of your feet. And the pond is frozen over thick-dog! Im talking almost 8-10in thick but stay off! No broom-ball.

A few people have been playing despite the weather so if you are coming out to throw make sure you are prepared for extreme conditions and be careful!

Most of the snow has melted and turned everything to mud, so now it's "Slick-Dog!"

The course is still covered in snow. Most of the tee-pads are clear but the snow is still deep in most areas and it is tough to find discs in. Hopefully in a week or two it will be back to slick-dog!

Just curious about how the course is looking. Anyone know? This saturday looks like a great disc golf day if the snow is melted enough. Let me know how it looks and if anyone feels like throwing an early round. I don't want to miss too much of the NCAA tournament, but high 50's and sun sound too good to pass up if the snow is mostly gone and the ground isn't too "slick-dog."

We're playing this Sat 20th at 9:30. Several from Wilkes are coming up, and a couple I work with may play. It will def-def-definitely be a good day!

The course is now snow free and all the ice on the pond has melted. I threw the front 9 this evening and it played well. Most of the ground is pretty firm and is not too slick dog as of now. Hole 5's green/basket is a little soggy but not that bad. Hole 8's basket and the trail on Hole 9 is still in pretty good shape as well. I will try and check out the back 9 and will get back with an update.

Sounds like a plan Scott. I'll plan on being at the course by 9:30 so I can join the fun. I'm actually in the process of buying a house in Wilkesboro so it would be great to meet some of the Wilkesboro guys. I'm trying not to get too excited about the house since we still have several steps to go through, but things are looking good so far. Wish me luck! See you on Sat. Its going to be an awesome day to be on the course!!!
